Collapsible Sidebar Navigation for Quick Document Switching (Like OneNote)
Dear GoodNotes Team,
I am an academic researcher who relies heavily on GoodNotes for managing extensive libraries of notes, e-textbooks, and research data.
I would like to propose a specific workflow improvement that combines the best of OneNote’s navigation with GoodNotes’ tab system.
The Concept: I suggest adding a collapsible sidebar (File Tree) on the left while in editing mode. However, the interaction should work specifically as follows:
Sidebar Visibility: While editing a note (e.g., "Biochemistry"), I can toggle open a left sidebar that shows my entire folder/file structure (similar to OneNote).
Action: When I click on a different file…

Fully fledged Math integration
Now that graphs are an option, I would like to see this being improved and features being added. I use GoodNotes for maths a lot and I would want to add two graphs in one graph view, set an interval to a graph, recolor the graphs, display intersections with other graphs or the x-axis, support for calculus and equation solving algorithms to find parameters for a polynomial, for instance. That would be beneficial.

Eliminate hover in windows
It's very annoying, the hover effect they recently added to GoodNotes on Windows. Visually, it makes my eyes get tired quickly when I move the mouse over the document.

Auto-add date and folder name when creating new files
It would be really helpful if, when creating a new notebook or whiteboard, GoodNotes could automatically include the current date (e.g. “September 1, 2025”) and optionally the name of the folder (e.g. “NameFolder – September 1, 2025”) in the file name.
This would greatly improve file organization, especially for users who create many documents daily (like teachers) and want to keep everything tidy without having to rename files manually.6 votes -
less submenus
Many functions you have placed in submenus could easily fit into their respective window headers, toolbars etc. - thereby becoming more obvious and faster/easier to access.
examples:1) The filter for bookmarked pages in the page browser is now the single item in a submenu. Unnecessary - there is easily enough room for 4 tabs - even when viewed as sidebar and in portrait orientation. img_0387
2) Select pages and sidebar/popup toggle hide behind a 3 dots menu in the page browser. Why? There is enough room there to show these directly. Esp. if you implement the toggle as one…

Highlighter synchronization on iPad and MacBook
It would be nice if the highlighters and pictures you insert on the MacBook would not change its position on my iPad. whenever i highlight something on my iPad or on my MacBook or even insert a picture, the same page on the other device is a little shifted and not on the original position.
I uploaded a picture: I wrote the text on my MacBook and highlighted on my iPad. The highlighter on the my MacBook was then shifted from its original position on my iPad. The highlighter on my iPad is still on the original position.6 votes -
Handwriting to text capitalization issue
Before the last major update, I never had issues with handwriting to text conversion capitalizing the first letter of the first word of the first sentence. Since the update, I have to rewrite the word (sometimes twice) to get it to recognize it's the beginning of a paragraph. Don't seem to have the issue once the first sentence is completed. This is time-consuming and frustrating, so a fix would be much appreciated.

The new unified writing tool is very inconvenient
Hi, I’d like to share some feedback about the new “Unified Drawing Tool.”
I use GoodNotes professionally as a teacher — during presentations, I do live-style writing and drawing on the screen.
In my workflow, I switch very frequently between the pointer, pen, highlighter, eraser, and lasso selection. After the recent update, all the writing tools are grouped under one button, making it much slower to switch tools and really interrupting my work.
For me, it’s essential to have my writing tools on the same toolbar level as the pointer and lasso. Please make this customizable again, or at least…

Different Interface and tools
The new update is terrible, the toolbar I don't mind very much (annoying but I can live) but the shape features are absolutely terrible. Before the new update I could make circles at an angle and trapezoids to my liking, and perfect right angles (stem major so every important) and now the only thing I can draw are ovals straight across, I cant even make a trapezoid, when I use the hold feature to draw a right angle it doesn't come out a perfect right angle it is always slightly off, and when I use the shape feature to make…

Line
With the new update, it seems that the it is difficult to draw normal straight lines with the draw and hold. Now, it draws a bit of a straight line and then starts another line. Before, I could draw a line and adjust the end point. Now it seems that it just starts an alternate line. Additionally, if line is too short, it makes a twisted circle shape…

Fixing the pen and highlighter straight line/zoom window.
I am a great fan of this app, however since the new update (version 7.0.4), I've noticed that the pen and highlighter snap to straight lines/shapes feature has been substantially less accurate/sensitive which makes drawing graphs and models incredibly difficult as it will merge many of my 'corners' into a single line. I draw tables with the highlighter tool but dislike how separate strokes will be darker where overlapped, so being able to draw a graph in a single stroke requires the sensitivity and accuracy from before the update. Currently, it doesn't matter how many 'corners' I draw with the…

Add Inline Drawing Support to Text Doc for Seamless Visual Note-Taking
ext Doc is great for writing thanks to its clean block structure and keyboard-friendly design. However, one thing that would make it even more powerful is the ability to add inline drawing areas—similar to how Apple Notes lets you sketch directly within your notes and resize the drawing space as needed.
When I'm taking notes during meetings or documenting ideas, I often need to quickly sketch diagrams or jot down visual thoughts alongside the text. Right now, I have to choose between using a traditional notebook that supports drawing but isn’t ideal for typing, or using Text Doc and keeping…6 votes -
Deactivate the option “Zoom|Add Link|Add comments”
While writing, my palm touches the screen and most often the "Zoom | Add comment" option pops up. I've already set up the palm detection, it still doesn't work.
It makes the app completely unusable!
I need a setting to deactivate this option!

Implement Apple's Stroke Prediction for Best Pencil Latency
Owning an iPad Pro with an OLED screen with fantastic pixel response, I can't but go back to Apple Notes to enjoy the note taking experience with almost no perceivable latency and instant real-life note taking experience.
Unfortunately GoodNotes 6 has a noticeable latency that can be eliminated if the team can implement the same algorithms used in Apple Notes app.
To repreduce this you can draw a straight line on a blank page from the bottom of the iPad to the top, you'll see a gap on GoodNotes 6 between the tip of the pencil and the line as…

Changing sequence of tabs
Easier sorting of tabs. I usually have 10 documents open at the same time. If I want to change the order, it requires a lot of dexterity. Perhaps a move function with arrows could be implemented. Thank you very much.

[Tape] More Tape Style Options
As the title suggests, I need more tape styles or more customizable tape styles. The current tape styles are too monochromatic and not very attractive. They are not smart or colorful enough, and they are not personalized or free. I hope that more support can be provided for this function as soon as possible, rather than getting stuck in AI text recognition and neglecting the construction of basic functions. Other note-taking software has had this feature for a while, as shown in the figure below.

AI Notes to study set
Online there are tremendously useful AI services that convert a PDF to a set of study cards. It would be amazing to be able to have AI convert notes to study sets automatically.

Image to text - Extracting text from an image or pdf
To be able to upload an image/pdf and have AI generate a copy of the text within that image/pdf to be able to copy and paste it. I often find myself having to re-type something from an image or an app (that doesn’t allow me to copy) so having this feature would work wonders. Brandfolder.com have an offer of 5 free uses a day for extracting text from a file, if you would like to try it! (:
