1. Keyboard typing synchronization during audio recording playback

   English: Hello! I would love to suggest a feature improvement based on an issue I've run into. When I used my Apple Pencil to take notes while recording audio, I loved how the playback showed my handwriting stroke by stroke in sync with the audio. Since I switched to typing with my keyboard a few months ago, I noticed it only displays the entire paragraph at once once you finish typing. It would be amazing if the keyboard typing could also sync up and display word-by-word or letter-by-letter in real time during audio playback, just like the Apple Pencil.

2. Editing history

   Like Microsoft word, a way to go back 5 mins and restore things that might have been deleted. The undo button resets when you leave the document.

6. Request for Layer Functionality Support

   Hello Goodnotes Team,

   I am a long-time user who deeply enjoys using Goodnotes for taking notes and organizing documents.

   I am writing to suggest a feature that would greatly improve the user experience.

   Other note-taking apps (such as Flexcil) offer a Layer feature, which allows users to separate handwritten notes, text boxes, and imported images/PDF files. In Goodnotes, however, the lack of layers makes it quite inconvenient when working with overlapping elements.

   Currently, when I write over an inserted image or pasted document, trying to select or edit only the handwriting often results in accidentally moving or selecting the image underneath. To avoid this, I have to manage handwritten notes and pasted files separately, which significantly slows down my workflow.

   If Goodnotes could introduce Layer support (or a Feature to Lock/Separate images and pen strokes), it would solve these conflicts and drastically improve productivity for many users.

   I sincerely hope the development team considers adding layer support in a future update.

   sehr problematischer Workflow, da viel Zeitverlust durch folgende wiederkehrende Probleme:

   Programm/App im Vergleich zur Apple Version sehr viel langsamer

9. [GIPHY] Ability to crop GIFs inserted

   Now, Goodnotes allows to insert GIFs natively from the stickers tool, powered by GIPHY, but i would like to have the ability to crop them, some times there are GIFs that i only want part of it to adjust around my text or to shape them a bit... it would be nice to have the option just like we have with other selections

10. Add text doc as a page

    For the text doc to be useful to me I need it to be an option to add it as a page within a normal notebook. I always use both typed and hand-written notes interchangeably. And I usually have one notebook per subject. So it would be so helpful to have the option to add a text document just as a page (I don‘t mind if it is size restricted, just like with pages when doing handwritten notes). Because currently the only option to have that is to export the text document and re-add it as a pdf to the notebook. At that point, it is more worth it to me to type the notes in a more advanced document app (Word, Pages…).

11. Zoom + Remove Blank space for Text Doc on Mac

    Currently, Text Documents are displayed in a relatively narrow, fixed-width column, leaving substantial unused white space on either side of the screen. Even when the Goodnotes window is maximised, I cannot enlarge the document or adjust its width to make better use of the available screen space.

    This makes reading, studying and working with longer documents unnecessarily difficult, particularly on larger Mac displays.

    I would greatly appreciate the following improvements:

    Adjustable document width: Allow users to expand or narrow the text column, ideally with a "Fit to Window" option that automatically adapts to the screen size.

    Independent zoom controls: Introduce adjustable zoom levels (e.g. 75–200%) using keyboard shortcuts, trackpad gestures or a zoom slider, without changing the document's actual font formatting.

    Customisable reading layouts: Offer narrow, standard and wide document layouts to accommodate different screen sizes and reading preferences.

12. Add a sub outline in the outline section for more smooth navigation through pdf

    every topic have a broad topic and many sub topics … from that broad topic we cant-find the sub topics easily we have to hit and try on different broad topic so the feature of sub outline is great to get that very topic instantly

13. [Selection] Select Element from anywhere on screen

    Please revert the elements selection back to its original form:
    - click on the elements tool and it remains selected just like the pen tool.
    - Tap anywhere on screen and the elements dropdown shows
    - tap on an element to paste it onto the page in the location that was originally tapped
    - if more elements are needed, continue to tap in screen where you would like the element then select the element from the dropdown.

    Goodnotes Cloud synchronisiert derzeit die gesamte Bibliothek. Für berufliche und private bzw. schulische Inhalte wäre eine Einstellung sinnvoll, mit der einzelne Ordner von der Cloud-Synchronisierung ausgeschlossen werden können. So könnten Nutzer gemeinsam an bestimmten Dokumenten arbeiten, ohne vertrauliche berufliche Inhalte hochzuladen.

17. Where is my "copy" option when using the lasso tool?

    Oh... that's where the copy tool is! Buried behind the ( . . . ) menu, so now in layer two of the context menu when I have circled content I want to copy and move.

    Why?

    And I do realize there is a Duplicate option but I don't want to drag my content around behind me, I want to have the copied content ready to be pasted multiple times over without it visibly overlaying other content which Duplicate does.

    But maybe I am just super old fashioned and want to copy and paste content all the time and therefore I get frustrated by all the extra taps to get to "Copy"?

    Please, just please, make your menu options WAY more flexible or stop rolling out changes for a while.

    Fix Goodnotes Storage Management – This Is a Technical Disaster

    Goodnotes’ storage architecture is fundamentally broken. My actual library size is ~6 GB, yet the app is bloated to 27 GB on-device. This clearly indicates severe issues with cache invalidation, temporary file persistence, and orphaned/ghost data retention.

    Instead of performing routine garbage collection and data compaction, Goodnotes seems to endlessly accumulate redundant assets (thumbnails, partial syncs, stale caches). This is textbook storage leakage — exactly what happens when an app doesn’t properly implement lifecycle management for its local data.

    For an app marketed as a professional-grade productivity tool, this level of inefficiency is unacceptable. Users shouldn’t be forced into a delete-and-reinstall cycle just to reclaim wasted storage. Implement proper cache eviction policies, file system hygiene, and background storage optimization. Until then, Goodnotes is less of a note-taking tool and more of a storage black hole.
