1. Copy & Paste with Format

   I would like to suggest adding a “Copy Format / Paste Format” feature to GoodNotes.

   Currently, when adjusting text styles (font, size, color, spacing, etc.), users must manually change each element individually. A format copying tool—similar to the “Format Painter” in apps like Microsoft Word—would greatly improve efficiency and workflow.

   With this feature, users could:

   • Copy text box formatting
   • Apply consistent formatting across multiple sections quickly

3. Duplicate a folder

   You can duplicate a file but you cant duplicate a folder. I create template folders and it would be useful to duplicate the master folder.

4. Option to disable lasso tool alignment guides

   Please consider an option in the settings to disable the newly added alignment guides when using the lasso tool. For some this is a distracting feature and should be optional.

5. Expand Page Option

   Have a feature where you can expand the page of a document, so that you can have extra space to write annotations. This would be helpful for med students like me who often write and annotate over books but have no space to write. Have an option to expand the page to the left, or to the right, or expand both sides, or customized expansion.

6. Feature Requests and Improvement Suggestions for Goodnotes

   Dear Goodnotes Team,

   I would like to share some feature requests and suggestions that I believe could make Goodnotes even more useful, especially for studying, teaching, presenting, and working with Whiteboards.

   1. Customizable Laser Pointer Duration

   It would be very useful to make the display duration of the Laser Pointer adjustable. Users could choose how long the laser line remains visible before automatically disappearing.

   1. Toggle Function for Taps

   I would really appreciate a toggle function for Taps. There could be a switch that allows all Taps used within a notebook or Whiteboard to be revealed or hidden at once.

   Currently, if I want to reuse a Tap, I have to delete it and add it again, which can be quite inconvenient. A simple show/hide function would make this much easier.

   1. Built-in Diagrams

   A built-in diagram tool would be very useful. For example, it could allow users to quickly create:

   • Line charts
   • Bar charts
   • Column charts
   • Pie charts
   • Other basic diagrams

   Ideally, these diagrams could be moved, resized, and edited like other objects in Goodnotes.

   1. Automatically Follow Pencil Sketches

   It would be helpful to have a feature that allows a normal pen stroke to automatically follow a previously drawn pencil sketch.

   For example, when I sketch something with a pencil and then trace over it with a normal pen, Goodnotes could automatically align the new stroke with the pencil line, similar to how the ruler helps with precise drawing.

   Alternatively, Goodnotes could automatically recognize when a pencil sketch is being traced and replace the original pencil line with the clean pen line.

   1. Insert Entire Large Notebooks into Whiteboards

   It would be very useful to insert an entire notebook, including all of its pages, into a Whiteboard.

   For example, I would like to be able to insert a notebook containing 130 or more fully completed pages into a Whiteboard at once.

   There already seems to be a way to insert content into Whiteboards, but the current character/content limitation is relatively small. Increasing this limit significantly, or ideally removing it, would make the feature much more useful.

   1. More UI Personalization

   I would also appreciate more customization options for the Goodnotes interface.

   For example, users could be able to customize the colors of the toolbar and the top menu independently.

   A possible theme could be:

   • Black background
   • Red accents
   • White icons and text

   This would allow users to personalize Goodnotes and create their own preferred visual setup.

   1. Lines and Grid Options for Whiteboards

   A Whiteboard option with different background styles would also be very useful.

   For example:

   • Ruled lines
   • Grid paper
   • Dot grid
   • Graph/millimeter paper
   • Plain white

   Ideally, users could also adjust the spacing, color, and thickness of the lines or grid.

   Thank you for considering these suggestions. I really appreciate the work that goes into Goodnotes, and I hope some of these features could be considered for future updates.

7. Update

   After this new update everything is so much less user freidnly. it makes me so frusterated to use. the shapes tool is critical for me in my coursework and they completely ruined it. I never makes the shape that you want and you are unable to edit it. I dont see one positve or effective change in this update. Pleas allow us to revert back to old good notes it was so much better.

8. Drawing on text document

   Following the recent update which added the text document, I think that users should be able to have the option of writing, drawing and highlighting on the page. For me my study method is typing out my lecture notes in OneNote and then exporting to Goodnotes to highlight and annotate. However, if I was able to do this with the text document feature, it would make things so much easier. Not just for me but other users also.

9. Add a Lined Background to Imported PDF Slides

   One feature I would really love to see in Goodnotes is the ability to add a notebook-style background around imported and resized PDF slides, such as lined, grid, or dotted paper.

   This feature is already available in Notability, and it is one of the reasons why many students prefer using Notability for lecture notes.

   A common workflow for students is to first use another app or website to resize their lecture slides, then import the resized PDF into Notability. Notability allows them to place the slides on a notebook-style page with a lined background surrounding the slides, creating a clean space for handwritten notes, as shown in the attached example.

   Many students use this workflow because it allows them to keep the original lecture slides while turning the empty space around them into a useful note-taking area.

   I believe Goodnotes could implement and improve this feature by allowing users to:

   • Add a lined, grid, dotted, or custom background around imported PDF content.
   • Keep the original slides completely unchanged, without cropping or covering any content.
   • Automatically apply the background only to the available empty space around the slides.
   • Allow users to choose different layouts and backgrounds for better note-taking.

   This would be especially useful for students who study from lecture slides and want to combine their slides and handwritten notes in one organized page.

   Goodnotes is already an excellent note-taking app, and adding this feature would eliminate the need for students to use other apps just to create this type of lecture-note layout.

10. Revert to old UI!!!

    Please go back to the most previous UI. This new UI though more simplified, is more tedious to work with. I like the implementation of when you copy a photo, it directly sizes it from a corner instead of proportionally sizing everything. However, once you click off that image, you have to go back to the pen which wastes time during fast lectures.
    The new text box interaction is also tedious since you have to hold down and click ‘start editing’ instead of just clicking a button to text on the whole page. And if you do just a small text box then tao out of it, it automates to the pencil again making you have to go back to the text box tool - yet another time wasting function.
    And most annoying: the voice recordings. It is incredibly tedious now to find and play your voice recordings - and the new UI which hovers over your page takes up too much space. It was more effective when it would just show up on the tools bar. I’ve had many instances where I’m listening, and then tap out and have to re-find it on this new UI.
    PLEASE CHANGE IT BACK

12. Add security to protect our documents against your AI

    Your AI is very obviously scanning and learning from our documents, sketches, etc. This is a huge breach of trust.

    One huge use of Goodnotes for me and I am sure many others is to have a place to sketch out ideas. I cannot continue to do this in the knowledge that you are very obviously scanning and training your AI off of our ideas.

    Without that foundation of trust there is no way I would recommend this application to anybody anymore.

    Please rethink your AI integration. Apply AI only with consent and respect that "no means no".

13. [Lock Objects] Complete Lock Support for All Objects (Including Handwriting) + Grouping for Lock

    Thank you for making it available to lock images, sticky notes
    shapes, and textboxes. Please make it available for handwritten notes, elements (including stickers), arrows, connectors cannot be locked.     Why This Matters (User Perspective)
    Study and exam PDFs often require repeated OCR, compression, splitting, and conversion.

    The current export → convert → re-import workflow introduces friction and increases the risk of file loss or version confusion.

    Even a minimal set of conversion and utility tools inside GoodNotes would significantly elevate it from a “note-taking app” to a complete PDF-based learning and workflow hub.

    There have already been community requests asking for integrated OCR and processing for imported PDFs, indicating strong and ongoing user demand.

    If possible, I kindly ask the team to consider implementing this either as a core GoodNotes feature or as an official add-on / extension.

    Hello,
    I am a user who relies on GoodNotes primarily for PDF-based learning and professional workflows.

    GoodNotes is extremely strong in handwriting and annotation. However, when it comes to preprocessing and converting PDFs for study or work, users must leave the app and rely on external PDF tools, which significantly breaks the workflow.

    Currently, GoodNotes supports searching handwritten notes, typed text, and some PDF text. However, imported scanned PDFs without an OCR text layer are not searchable, and GoodNotes does not currently provide a way to apply OCR to already imported PDFs.
    As a result, scanned handouts, printed materials, and lecture PDFs cannot fully benefit from GoodNotes’ powerful search capabilities.

    Because of this limitation, many users must rely on external PDF apps to:

    Create searchable (OCR) PDFs

    Convert documents between formats

    Compress and organize pages

    This workflow requires repeatedly exporting files, converting them elsewhere, and re-importing them into GoodNotes, which is time-consuming and error-prone.

    In contrast, other PDF tools (such as UPDF and Wondershare PDFelement) provide a centralized “Tools Hub” that includes OCR, PDF ↔ Word/Excel/PowerPoint conversion, compression, merge/split, watermarks, Bates numbering, headers/footers, and batch processing in one place. The difference in productivity is very noticeable.

    For these reasons, I believe GoodNotes would greatly benefit from offering a PDF Conversion & Document Utility feature (“Converter Hub”), either as a built-in capability or as an official extension/partner feature.

16. More space for note taking

    I would like GoodNotes to allow unlimited note-taking space when working with PDFs. Currently, notes can only be written directly on the PDF pages, which is limiting. It would be very helpful to have expandable space around or beside the pages to add more detailed notes. Additionally, features like side notes, connecting lines, and more flexible layouts would improve the overall note-taking experience and make it easier to organize and connect ideas.

    I really like the Laser Pointer feature, but I think two small improvements would make it much more useful for teachers:

18. Quick-add to Table of Contents from selected text ("Ghost Page")

    When working in a long notebook (for example, 80+ pages in), adding a heading to the table of contents means leaving my place, scrolling back to page 1, writing the entry, and then scrolling all the way back. I'd like a faster way to do this.

    Proposed feature:

    1. I highlight a title or text segment (e.g., "Lecture 12 – Filters, p. 80").

    2. A new option appears in the selection menu, such as "Send to Table of Contents."

    3. A "ghost page" overlay appears showing the table of contents page, with a "Go to page…" field and left/right arrows to flip to the right page if I land on the wrong one.

    4. I place the highlighted text where I want it on that page, then tap a checkmark to confirm.

    5. Goodnotes automatically returns me to the page I was on (page 80), exactly where I left off.

    Why it matters:
    It makes building and updating a table of contents much faster for students and anyone with long notebooks. I label each section with a title and page number, and this would let me file it without losing my train of thought or my place in the notebook.

    When working in a long notebook (for example, 80+ pages in), adding a heading to the table of contents means leaving my place, scrolling back to page 1, writing the entry, and then scrolling all the way back. I'd like a faster way to do this.

    Proposed feature:

    1. I highlight a title or text segment (e.g., "Lecture 12 – Filters, p. 80").

    2. A new option appears in the selection menu, such as "Send to Table of Contents."

19. Back to technical drawing

    As an aerospace engineer, it was essential for me to be able to draw curves and lines by connecting points without going crazy. Since the last update, if you connect multiple curved lines, the system interprets this function however it wants and gives it a shape completely different from what I intended. Moreover, if you create simple shapes like circles inside other figures, it’s no longer possible to rotate the entire drawing. Please go back to the old logic — it was 100 times better.

20. Better autoscroll control on zoom writing

    When i write using the zoom function, despite I have the autoscroll or autojump desactivated it still moves the page. I'd like to be able to zoom while seeing the whole page or even previos pages. I don't want to see what i am writing double, i want to write while seeing other areas or reading other pages of my notebook. I am attaching a video to see what I am refering when i say it autojumps despite having this function off
