1. stabile elements across devices

   Please do find a way to prevent elements from moving around when switching between different devices. It is very frustrating to edit a dokument om my ipad omly to open it om my macbook and seeing that the textboxes and highliting etc have moved in relation to eachother. It makes it very hard to navigate on my macbook, and the contet does not make sense because of this. I am uploading two pictures where one is from my ipad, and the other is the exact same document opened om my macbook. Pleeeease find a solution for this! Thank you.

2. Copy and pasting long text

   Please can you make the text go to next page when paste long text because is hard to copy the text partly because in your app if it’s longer than page limite the text will be cut

3. AirPlay Blurry Text and Images

   This seems like a bug and it makes Goodnotes almost unusable for me. On my iPad I can see all the text and images fine, but on AirPlay, my students see a very pixelated version of all text and images.

   This happens both on whiteboards and pages, which leads me to think that it has something to do with a parameter that you might have set for the render resolution. The render resolution is too low for the current zoom level.

   This bug is making it really difficult to teach, could we potentially downgrade to an older version?

   PLEASE I AM BEGGING YOU ! As a medical student, I rely heavily on typed summaries. Please implement a native keyboard shortcut (like Cmd + Shift + E) or holding with your finger ( on iPad) to highlight selected text directly within a text box. This would eliminate the need for manual drawing

5. Optimization Issues in GoodNotes for iPad on Apple M-Series Chips

   This proposal summarizes optimization issues that include chronic overheating, performance degradation, and user experience problems occurring in the GoodNotes iPad app, even on high-performance Apple Silicon devices such as the M1 iPad Pro and newer models equipped with M-series chips.

   The core objective of this proposal is to respect the hardware constraints of the iPad’s fanless design while fully leveraging Apple Silicon–specific hardware accelerators, including the Apple Neural Engine (ANE), through a truly native architecture approach. By optimizing GoodNotes in accordance with Apple Silicon hardware characteristics, the app should regain a “Pro-level” stability where users no longer need to restart their device simply to restore normal pen input performance.

   During long-term usage (e.g., university undergraduate students using GoodNotes continuously for 6–8 hours or more while attending classes), performance gradually degrades. As a result, users are forced to quit the app or reboot their device to recover a usable writing experience. Despite updates released after the introduction of GoodNotes AI, these issues persist repeatedly. This strongly suggests severe internal memory fragmentation and resource leaks.

   Due to these unresolved issues, many users who wish to use GoodNotes 6 are compelled to downgrade to GoodNotes 5, even after purchasing both versions, simply to maintain basic usability.

   The following issues are still observed:

   • Blurred page rendering when zooming into scanned documents or large PDF files

   • Charging repeatedly stopping around 80% due to thermal protection (thermal throttling) during use

   • The iPadOS system forcibly reducing screen brightness due to excessive heat generated while using GoodNotes, resulting in very dim displays

   • Severe scroll stuttering when AI responses are being generated, while recording audio, when scrolling text content, or when interacting with page layouts—scroll lag occurs across nearly all scrollable UI areas

   • Unintended page jumps to the very top or bottom when scrolling through document pages

   • AI analysis (indexing/preparation phase) frequently remaining stuck at 0% for extended periods

   • Severe pen input lag and intermittent stroke interruptions

   • Excessive device overheating

   • For students who must use GoodNotes for extended periods on campus, enabling Low Power Mode combined with audio recording, simultaneous handwriting, and GoodNotes AI usage causes critical issues such as pen input interruptions and uncontrolled scroll jumps

   • When deleting pages, importing images, or adding/removing pages via the page layout feature, deleted data is not properly removed from the GoodNotes archive. “Ghost files” remain, and imported documents (entire files or partial pages) are duplicated in full, resulting in massive storage bloat and triggering AI network errors

   Additionally, it would be highly beneficial to introduce an automatic resource-aware control mechanism. When Low Power Mode is enabled, or when the device begins to overheat or approach critical thermal thresholds, background-intensive processes such as AI indexing, document analysis, and spell-checking should be automatically paused or temporarily suspended. This would prevent unnecessary thermal throttling, reduce system-wide performance degradation, and preserve core interactions such as pen input and scrolling responsiveness during active use.

   These issues have been present since the release of GoodNotes 6 and remain unresolved to this day. As many of these problems also existed in earlier versions, meaningful optimization and fundamental architectural improvements are urgently needed rather than continued deferral.

6. Audio Recording Center

   It would be great if we could manage all audio recordings in a single location to optimize space. Alternatively, we could have a conductor on the file page to indicate that a file contains an audio recording, allowing us to manage it if we no longer need the audio.

7. Variable Page Length

   Allow pages to be variable length so that ideas and content can be organized and not limited to print sizes. I use the cornell notes template, and often use the que and summary section to cram in more notes of similar ideas to keep it all together, which is counterproductive in a digital format. Google Docs has pageless scrolling, which is similar, but I do like the notebook format of page breaks when I want a new concept/idea.

8. Backup for Pen/highlight Colors

   I recently had to delete and re-download the app because of a bug issue and lost all of my saved colors. It would be awesome if there is a way to save or back up pen and highlight colors so that you don’t have to reprogram them when re-downloading the app.

9. Problems with highlighting notes in a text box

   Whenever you use the textbox tool and type notes, its very difficult to highlight the text. It never works like you would intend it to, and it takes multiple attempts to highlight a portion (either by double clicking or clicking and dragging) of the sentence or paragraph that you might want to bolden. Please make it so that its fluid and doesn't take a lot of attempts to highlight textbox notes.

10. Add OCR and Live Text Features to GoodNotes

    I often import lecture PDF files into GoodNotes to take notes and add annotations. In many cases, professors or instructors provide materials as text-based PDFs. However, there are also many situations where the files have been converted from PDF → image → PDF, making the text unselectable and turning the entire document into an image.

    When a document is image-based, tasks such as translating the content, searching for unfamiliar terms on the web, or asking GoodNotes AI questions about specific text become difficult. Currently, GoodNotes AI’s OCR capabilities for image-based documents are quite limited, and it sometimes misrecognizes text or interprets it as similar but incorrect words, which leads to inaccurate responses.

    As a result, I often have to rely on online OCR websites or separate OCR software to convert image-based documents into OCR-enabled PDFs, so that the text becomes searchable and selectable before importing them back into GoodNotes. This workflow is inconvenient and time-consuming.

    It would be highly beneficial to have a built-in feature in GoodNotes that allows users to apply OCR directly within the app. Additionally, since imported images may include photos of handwritten notes or presentation slides (such as PPTs), I believe integrating Apple’s Live Text feature into GoodNotes would greatly enhance usability.

    Proposal: Add AI Model Selection and File Attachment Features to GoodNotes AI
    I would like to suggest adding AI model selection and advanced attachment capabilities to GoodNotes AI.

    First, it would be great to introduce tiered AI plans under the GoodNotes AI Pass, such as AI Basic, AI Pro, and AI Special. Based on the selected AI Pass and the available tokens or credits, users could choose and use different AI response models.
    For example: ChatGPT 5.2 (Thinking / Auto / Instant), Gemini 3 Pro, Gemini Flash, or a GoodNotes-native AI model (v1.0).

    Second, I suggest adding options that allow users to choose whether the AI should respond based on:

    the current document only,

    the document plus web search, or

    web search only.

    In addition, a Deep Research mode would be highly valuable for more in-depth analysis and long-form answers.

    Finally, regarding attachments: currently, users can only attach images or text via the Lasso Tool. It would be very helpful if users could:

    reference and attach other GoodNotes documents,

    import files from iCloud, OneDrive, or Google Drive, and

    attach external files such as images or PDFs directly to the AI prompt.

    The number of files that can be uploaded or attached could be differentiated based on the user’s AI Pass tier or subscription level.

12. Remove filename extensions when importing files into GoodNotes (Mac version)

    When importing files such as PDFs into GoodNotes 6 for Mac, the document name keeps the filename extension (e.g., “Document.pdf”).
    Please automatically strip extensions upon import, or at least provide a toggle in settings.

13. Larger previews in miniature mode

    A function where you can enlargen the miniatures in the miniature view mode would be handy. That way it is easier to find the correct page which you are looking for.

    Perhaps through a preview mode for the individual pages, or better: a setting to see the pages in different patterns e.g. 3 pages next to each other, 2 pages next to each other or single page.

    This would come especially handy for flashcards as well, as those are very hard to organise in the miniature mode.

14. Scroll to current page in Miniature View

    As of now, when you open the Miniature View of a Notebook, the pages are shown from the very start.

    I suggest an option to either show the current page first or a button/option to auto-scroll to the current page.

    Whenever I work with 300+ flashcards and just want to change the order of a card in the miniature view, I have to scroll a long time to find the current card which I am looking for. It's also very easy to miss when you have a large amount of cards/pages, since you only have the thin blue lining of the page to look out for.

16. Text Document support custom fonts

    I would like the Text Document feature to support custom fonts.
    Being able to set and use custom fonts is important for my note-taking workflow, especially for maintaining visual consistency and personal preferences. Currently, the lack of font customization in Text Documents limits their usability compared to handwritten notebooks.

    Coming over from Onenote. I love goodnotes except I miss the organization tree side panel like in onenote. Have a notebooks, sections, and page. Please consider incorporating that feature

18. Whiteboard mode

    Hi,
    I’m using a lot goodnotes for math textbook etc…
    And when reading those books I create whiteboard for each book wich becomes very messy with time and this is my idea. When the use wants to have a « whiteboard » for the current textbook it creates a whiteboard attached to the book and you can access it only by the book

19. Sync Cached Search Index Across Devices

    The Current Bottleneck

    Currently, managing a large library across multiple devices introduces a significant friction point: local search indexing.

    • The Waiting Game: Opening Goodnotes on a secondary device or setting up a brand-new device requires a lengthy indexing process for all changed or new documents.
    • Resource Drain: While downloading the actual PDFs and notes takes time, forcing every individual device to build its own search index from scratch is incredibly inefficient. It consumes massive amounts of battery life and CPU power.
    • Screen Time: To make matters worse, the app must remain actively open on the screen until this indexing completes, interrupting the user's workflow.

    The Proposed Solution

    Instead of local-only indexing, the app should adopt a cloud-synced index cache:

    • Pre-Compute on the Active Device: The heavy lifting of building the search index should happen on the device where the pages are actually being created or edited.
    • Sync the Cache: This generated search index cache is then synced to the cloud alongside the document data.
    • Elegant Conflict Resolution: Just as the app currently handles document editing conflicts, it should elegantly merge or resolve conflicts between different versions of the search index if offline edits occur on multiple devices simultaneously.

    Why This Changes Everything

    Implementing this doesn't just solve a battery issue; it unlocks entirely new storage management capabilities:

    • The "Remove Download" Feature: If the search index is synced independently of the heavy document files, users could search through their entire library to find a specific keyword without needing to have all those gigabytes of files stored locally.
    • Storage Optimization: Users could confidently offload older notebooks to the cloud to save local storage, knowing they can still instantly query their contents via the synced index and only download the specific document they need.

20. Support for older devices

    It seems that my 2017 MacBook Pro 15" isn't compatible with Goodnotes anymore (it doesn't synchronies to the latest documents anymore and says that I should Update my Goodnotes app but my App Store doesn't provide any new updates.) and I just wanted to feedback you that I find this very sad and would really appreciate a longer support for older devices (:
