Customer Suggestions for Goodnotes (Apple)

Welcome to the Goodnotes idea-sharing space!

This space is dedicated to users on Apple devices (iPad, Mac, iPhone).
For Goodnotes on other platforms, please visit these links: for Android, Windows and Web and Teams, Enterprise.

Tips to make your suggestion visible and bring your idea to life:

  • Search existing threads. Your idea might already be under discussion. If so, feel free to add your input or vote on it. More votes = more visibility.
  • Create a new thread if it’s new. If your suggestion is unique, start a new thread. Write a short, clear headline that quickly conveys your main idea, and include context and details in the description.
  • Separate multiple ideas. If you have several suggestions, split them into individual topics so we can review (and others can vote on) each one more effectively.

  1. Most of PDFs have build-in links in the table of content. However, GN aren't enable to click those links to navigate to the page. I need to add outlines by myself.

I really need this feature, especially for those PDFs with too many pages.

  2. Currently, GoodNotes does not offer a way to temporarily hide pages without deleting them. Users who want to remove certain pages from view must delete them permanently. This lack of flexibility makes it harder to structure notes effectively and increases the risk of accidental data loss. Enable users to hide pages temporarily without deleting them, providing an intuitive and visually clear way to manage hidden pages.
    How It Would Work
    • A new “Hide Page” option would be added to the same menu as “Delete Page.”
    • Hidden pages would no longer appear in the main document but remain accessible.…

  3. There’s one thing that really limits my productivity: the folder navigation. It’s currently very time-consuming and confusing to navigate between nested folders or PDFs.

You always have to click multiple times to move between documents if they are stored in different subfolders. This becomes extremely inefficient, especially when managing complex hierarchies (like for studies or work).

Please take a look at Noteful or OneNote — they have an excellent folder overview / hierarchy structure that shows all folders and subfolders clearly on one screen (like a sidebar or tab structure).
That way, users can easily switch between documents without losing…

  4. The current convert feature (handwriting to text) requires me to manually select the text from the pop-up. Can you please make it so that I can directly “copy as text” (similar to Apple notes)? This would be so much more convenient since I often send snippets of my notes to my friends via chat (in text format) and also I sometimes want my handwritten title as an outline, so I need to get the text.

  5. After writing down a paragraph in a specific color (lets say black), I would like the ability to select a tool (maybe one that looks like a lens) and would allow me to go back over the words I have already written and change their color to something else (such as blue or red). That way, I would no longer have to erase something and rewrite it in a new color. It is different from the highlight tool because I am not suggesting adding an additional color, rather I am suggesting the ability to change the color of these pen…

  6. I have two devices. One at home for personal usage and one at work. I use different documents in each iPad and I’d like to be able to set different favorites docs in each.

  7. I love using GoodNotes with the outline feature for digital journaling. The only thing missing is that physical A5 book to hold in your hands. It would be so amazing to have a service to order a bound book once 250-300 pages in an A5 style notebook has been filled. Also to have a journal notebook option where page numbers are added, A5 is default, and landscape mode allows for a full 2 page spread to be shown. We get an amazing feature and it's monetizing for the devs. Win win.

  8. The ability to draw with a marker, like crayola or something like that. I like outlining spreads with marker

  9. It would great if you can see all comments you wrote in one book together. Perhaps under the field outlines "see all comments".

  10. The current Windows version of GoodNote (my Version# 171116-rc20) surprisingly don't have outlines of the book while they are implemented in Macbook or ipad. I expect this to be a very simple feature request but quite useful for people browsing a book on GoodNote. I hope it could be added on as a new feature.

  11. 물론입니다. 앞뒤 인사말 없이 기능 요청 본문만 아래에 정리해드릴게요:

I’d like to request the addition of a “Show in Folder” or “Reveal Location” function for files within GoodNotes.

Currently, when working with many documents organized into folders, it’s often hard to remember or confirm where a file is located—especially when accessing it from the Recents or Search tab.

    Suggested improvements:
    1. Display the full folder path of any opened file (like in Windows or macOS).
    2. Enable a “Go to Folder” action to quickly jump to the parent folder of the document.

This would greatly improve navigation and file…

  12. Reorganisation. In notebooks you’re able to move pages around after creating them. You can’t do this for cards which seems weird. Would also be nice to create the same outlines with this feature.

  13. The option for infinite pages like Onenote would be amazing! I find being able to scribble out ideas for mind mapping really helps me with my ADHD.
The ability to print it out later would be great as well, perhaps in the form of light outlines in the background on the template so we can visualise where all of the writting is going, or an auto suggestion?

I love how CollaNote allows you to have multiple pen/highlighter options on the side of the page instead of the top bar. That would be reallly really helpful as well as I…

    1. When viewing a book or document in landscape mode, make sure to view it two pages at a time.
      1. Open the outline (table of contents) in a pop-up window so that you can see it as the text. (Please fix the window so that it does not disappear when you touch a part of the table of contents.)
      2. In addition to bookmarking the page, please allow the user to bookmark the content of the text. (I wish I could see the list of bookmarks in the table of contents, and if you touch that part, please go to the text.)

  14. It would be nice if there were a way to index all pages written and make them available where one finds Thumbnails / Favorites / Outlines a way to go quickly review and find.

I will use when I have a normal document with a lot of pages, and I have to write some notes, o highlight something, and then quickly find in the documents my notes.

  15. I keep waiting for someone to replicate the Newton MessagePad. You’re getting there, but here are some things I would love you to add:
    - treat handwritten text more like a word processor treats type. I should be able to select streams of words just as I would in a word processor by dragging across the line or block with an i-bar pointer, and then cut, copy, delete. And do wrapping like a word processor too.
    - Have the option for having those blocks of handwritten text in a basic outliner, with drag and drop of points, indenting and…

  16. Sometimes when I read and take notes on lecture PowerPoint pdf on GoodNotes, I feel like the pages display are too big (I used an iPad Pro) esp when the content on the slides is not very compact. So I wonder if it’s possible to set how the pdf to be displayed, like for horizontal it can be set to 2x2, 3x2. Or for vertical, it can be set to 2x4, 2x6, or even 3x4 etc instead? To be able to view more pages at a glimpse like the outlines and also able to actually read the content would…

  17. I use one document for my work. And each day I need diferent pages. Now I need to delete all bookmarks and prepare bookmarks for another day. If I could do this preparation in advance for all the days with diferent packs of bookmarks, it would save lot of time.

Using outlines doesn't work for this need.

  18. It would be tremendous to have the ability to launch the page organizer (with Thumbnails, Favorites, Outlines) via a keyboard shortcut. Furthermore, once in that window, it would be handy to be able to jump between the Thumbnails, Favorites, and Outlines views.

I use all 3 of those organizational features in different ways within the same notebook, but navigation can get cumbersome. Having these navigational shortcuts would be a game changer.

  19. There are only two things I’d change about Goodnotes 5, and this is the more prominent of them. I would like to have the ability to add sections to the thumbnail view, just to make it easier to find chapters/sections/topics in my classes. A simple line between the first and the next section with an area to write the name of the section would be more than enough. I have used outlines some but they don’t provide enough oversight in my opinion. I really hope something like this comes to fruition. Just as a side note I’d also like…
