2. Let us record normally without requiring “record and summarize”

   Can’t figure out a way to record without the dumb AI features. Unknowingly used all my credits in the span of an hour because I couldn’t just record audio and it forced me to do the ai summarize too. So annoying

3. Please bring back our peaceful everyday lives!!! Why the latest update is so bad.

   I’ve been using Goodnotes every single day for years. I truly appreciated its clean interface and powerful features that supported my workflow. But the most recent update has drastically changed that, in all the wrong ways.

   I kept telling myself, “This update must be useful. I just need to give it time and get used to it.”
   So I patiently tried using it for several days, but in the end, I came to the conclusion that this update is harming my mental well-being.

   Let me outline a few reasons why this update has made the experience worse:

   • Inability to draw proper straight lines
   

   I often draw lines at various angles, but now the shape tool struggles with even basic diagonal lines. Why am I getting curves when I clearly intend to draw straight lines? Also, I can’t fine-tune the endpoints of lines by holding the pen anymore.

   • Eraser placement is inefficient
   

   Accessing the eraser now requires tapping into the pen tool. However, the eraser should always be one tap away, whether I’m using the shape tool or lasso. Hiding it under another layer slows down the process and creates unnecessary friction.

   • No way to draw complex polygons
   

   After the update, how am I supposed to draw pentagons or anything more complex? The shape tool turns them into circles, and of course, the long-press method(pen tool) can't help it.

   Additionally, sometimes I want a filled shape, and sometimes I don’t. But now I can’t erase just the fill color with the eraser tool — I have to turn off the fill option manually every time when I want to draw non filled shapes. That’s very inconvenient.Why must I toggle the “fill” option every single time? Let us erase just fill color like we could before.

   Editing shape points is also more cumbersome now—you have to tap them individually just to adjust. And rotation is inexplicably removed. Why take away such essential control?

   Oh, and by the way—parabolas? Gone.

   Many of the features that made me choose Goodnotes in the first place have vanished.

   Maybe there are some benefits to this update, but I haven’t found any. More importantly, why remove existing functionality that worked perfectly fine? That’s not an improvement—it’s a regression.

   Please, give us a way to revert to the previous version. I just want to return to the smooth experience I had before. Please bring back our everyday peace.

6. Make us go back to pencil mode after using eraser

   Since the new goodnotes (7) update, I always go back to latest tool I was using before the eraser, especially to the lasso tool, I do not want it, I want to be able to go back to pencil mode after the eraser again.

   Please bring back the typing tool in handwritten documents as a separate button in the toolbar.
   Also, please fix the overlapping of the typing “toolbar” with the title when typing.

10. Make making flashcards as easy as writing notes, i dont want to type

    I dont want to tap to edit everytime i want to make a flashcard by pen, i just want to write them then slide to a new one. Its exshauting to tap write save then exit everytime for someone who just wants to write them by pen

11. Smart Learn Needs a Daily Card Limit Like Anki

    I think Goodnotes Smart Learn seriously needs a daily card limit system similar to Anki.

    Right now Smart Learn can become very aggressive with recommendations when you have a huge number of flashcards.

    Imagine being a med student with:

    • separate study sets for every chapter
    • thousands of flashcards
    • eventually 20,000–30,000+ total cards

    At that scale, unlimited recommendations can become stressful and mentally overwhelming.

    I think there should be a feature where users can set:
    “Smart Learn can only recommend X cards today”

    Example:

    • Today limit = 200 cards
    • Smart Learn then intelligently chooses the MOST important 200 cards from all pending cards using spaced repetition and forgetting probability.

    This would:

    • reduce stress
    • make revision sustainable long-term
    • prevent burnout
    • improve consistency
    • make huge flashcard systems actually manageable

    The goal of spaced repetition should not just be “maximum cards possible,” but “maximum retention with sustainable mental load.”

    I genuinely think this one feature could make Goodnotes much more powerful for serious students like med students, law students, and competitive exam prep users.

    I think Goodnotes Smart Learn seriously needs a daily card limit system similar to Anki.

12. [Lock Objects] Complete Lock Support for All Objects (Including Handwriting) + Grouping for Lock

    Thank you for making it available to lock images, sticky notes
    shapes, and textboxes. Please make it available for handwritten notes, elements, arrows, connectors cannot be locked. Furthermore, it would be awesome if you could also group and lock images, sticky notes, shapes, textbooks, handwritten notes, elements, and connectors together.

13. Revert shape tool to Goodnotes 6 Version

    Ever since the new update to Goodnotes 7, the shape tool is a lot less flexible and very strict and jerky when drawing shapes, and is very frustrating to work with. The previous version was much more user friendly and I have no idea why anyone thought messing with something that was working just fine was a good idea. Please change it back to the previous version or at least provide a toggle so we can choose which version we want to use instead of forcing this downgrade on everyone. Thanks!

14. update study sets

    please update study sets
    i use it a lot for studying but it’s so difficult to use, for example:

    • currently you cannot press the apple pencil barrel to automatically turn to eraser (!!!!)
    • when zooming into top left corner, you cannot write because the undo button blocks it
    • add template options - currently it’s only a blank card, it would be better if there were lines to write on (!!!!)
    • allow copy and pasting individual flashcards
    • study sets are so laggy and most of the time when i make a new flashcards and write on it, it does not show up when i click “done”
    • make an option to swap “question” and “answer” when practicing the flashcards

    The comment pop-up should be resizeable like in Adobe Acrobat.. Also I'd like to be able to add pictures in the comments to make my notes decluttered. And the text should be editable (like in the regular ...bullet points, bold etc)

    I would love to see a feature that allows users to take a photo of handwritten notes and convert them into fully editable GoodNotes digital ink.

    The key difference from importing a photo is that the handwriting itself becomes editable.

    How it could work:

    1. Take or Import a Photo

       • Users can take a photo of handwritten notes from:
         • Notebook page
         • Loose paper
         • Whiteboard

    2. Convert Handwriting into Digital Ink

       • GoodNotes AI analyzes the handwriting and reconstructs it as editable digital ink strokes.
       • The converted notes should closely match the original handwriting style and layout.

    3. Replace the Photo Background

       • Instead of keeping the original photo background, GoodNotes places the converted handwriting onto a standard GoodNotes page.
       • Users could choose lined, dotted, grid, or blank paper templates.
       • This creates a clean note page rather than a photo of a whiteboard or sheet of paper.

    4. Fully Editable Notes

       • After conversion, users can:
         • Erase individual strokes
         • Move handwritten content
         • Resize notes
         • Change ink colors
         • Use the lasso tool
         • Add additional handwriting
         • Organize content across pages

    Example Use Case
    A student takes a photo of a professor's whiteboard before leaving class. Instead of saving the image as a static photo, GoodNotes converts the writing into editable digital ink on a clean notebook page. The student can then reorganize the notes, add annotations, erase sections, and continue studying within GoodNotes.

    Benefits
    * Turns static photos into editable notes.
    * Makes classroom whiteboard notes much more useful.
    * Allows users to digitize old paper notes without manually rewriting them.
    * Creates cleaner and more organized notes by removing paper backgrounds, shadows, glare, and other image imperfections.

    Fix Goodnotes Storage Management – This Is a Technical Disaster

    Goodnotes’ storage architecture is fundamentally broken. My actual library size is ~6 GB, yet the app is bloated to 27 GB on-device. This clearly indicates severe issues with cache invalidation, temporary file persistence, and orphaned/ghost data retention.

    Instead of performing routine garbage collection and data compaction, Goodnotes seems to endlessly accumulate redundant assets (thumbnails, partial syncs, stale caches). This is textbook storage leakage — exactly what happens when an app doesn’t properly implement lifecycle management for its local data.

    For an app marketed as a professional-grade productivity tool, this level of inefficiency is unacceptable. Users shouldn’t be forced into a delete-and-reinstall cycle just to reclaim wasted storage. Implement proper cache eviction policies, file system hygiene, and background storage optimization. Until then, Goodnotes is less of a note-taking tool and more of a storage black hole.

18. Add Opacity Control to Pen Tools

    I would like to suggest adding an opacity control (0–100%) to pen tools such as the fountain pen, ballpoint pen, brush pen, pencil, highlighter, and tape pen.

    This feature would allow for greater flexibility and precision in note-taking, highlighting, and creative work.

    Goodnotes has become more cumbersome and slower with the latest update. I now need two clicks to switch between pens and the laser pointer. When I have images, there is now always a white border at the top of the projection, and I first have to switch to read-only mode to display the image in full screen.
    The fold-out toolbox also takes up space on the screen.
    Adding to favorites also requires one more click.
    The updates have only increased the amount of work involved and represent a deterioration. On the other hand, I don't need AI or sound recordings. The new features take up space and displace existing ones.
    I would suggest that Goodnotes really allow you to customize it however you want. Without the AI button or record button, everything would still fit as before.
