4. Convert Handwritten Photos into Editable Digital Ink

   I would love to see a feature that allows users to take a photo of handwritten notes and convert them into fully editable GoodNotes digital ink.

   The key difference from importing a photo is that the handwriting itself becomes editable.

   How it could work:

   1. Take or Import a Photo

      • Users can take a photo of handwritten notes from:
        • Notebook page
        • Loose paper
        • Whiteboard

   2. Convert Handwriting into Digital Ink

      • GoodNotes AI analyzes the handwriting and reconstructs it as editable digital ink strokes.
      • The converted notes should closely match the original handwriting style and layout.

   3. Replace the Photo Background

      • Instead of keeping the original photo background, GoodNotes places the converted handwriting onto a standard GoodNotes page.
      • Users could choose lined, dotted, grid, or blank paper templates.
      • This creates a clean note page rather than a photo of a whiteboard or sheet of paper.

   4. Fully Editable Notes

      • After conversion, users can:
        • Erase individual strokes
        • Move handwritten content
        • Resize notes
        • Change ink colors
        • Use the lasso tool
        • Add additional handwriting
        • Organize content across pages

   Example Use Case
   A student takes a photo of a professor's whiteboard before leaving class. Instead of saving the image as a static photo, GoodNotes converts the writing into editable digital ink on a clean notebook page. The student can then reorganize the notes, add annotations, erase sections, and continue studying within GoodNotes.

   Benefits
   * Turns static photos into editable notes.
   * Makes classroom whiteboard notes much more useful.
   * Allows users to digitize old paper notes without manually rewriting them.
   * Creates cleaner and more organized notes by removing paper backgrounds, shadows, glare, and other image imperfections.
   * Bridges the gap between handwritten notes and digital note-taking.

   This feature would make it much easier for students, teachers, and professionals to capture handwritten information from the real world and seamlessly integrate it into their GoodNotes workflow.

5. New version is so much worse

   Now its nearly unusable,I can’t edit a type-in document,It won’t let me change the colors or edit the title type,it is not comfortable to find the type-in part either.It just got so much worse,I’m close to switching to another note taking app.Please fix these and let us get back the previus version !

6. Sync between iOS and Windows/Android

   I am a user who subscribed to the Goodnotes Essential plan a few days ago. I was looking into why my Goodnotes library won't sync between Windows and iOS, and I found the following text:

   'If you purchased this plan before September 23, 2025, you are eligible for Goodnotes Cloud. If you purchased this plan after September 23, 2025, you will need to upgrade to the Goodnotes Pro plan to use Goodnotes Cloud.'

   When will cross-platform sync be supported for the Essential plan? I subscribed to this plan because the pricing clearly indicated that the Essential plan also supports cross-platform sync, so I am confused that the sync is not working.

7. bring back continuous text box and allowing use to set to specifc font color

   New update removed ability to stay on typing function and will revert back to Lasso. This is so annoying. Also bring back allowing the user to choose their default font color. My school uses dark colored ppts and when typing the auto selected black font makes it impossible to keep up with note taking as i constantly must highlight the text and change it to white font.

8. Smart Learn Needs a Daily Card Limit Like Anki

   I think Goodnotes Smart Learn seriously needs a daily card limit system similar to Anki.

   Right now Smart Learn can become very aggressive with recommendations when you have a huge number of flashcards.

   Imagine being a med student with:

   • separate study sets for every chapter
   • thousands of flashcards
   • eventually 20,000–30,000+ total cards

   At that scale, unlimited recommendations can become stressful and mentally overwhelming.

   I think there should be a feature where users can set:
   “Smart Learn can only recommend X cards today”

   Example:

   • Today limit = 200 cards
   • Smart Learn then intelligently chooses the MOST important 200 cards from all pending cards using spaced repetition and forgetting probability.

   This would:

   • reduce stress
   • make revision sustainable long-term
   • prevent burnout
   • improve consistency
   • make huge flashcard systems actually manageable

   The goal of spaced repetition should not just be “maximum cards possible,” but “maximum retention with sustainable mental load.”

   I genuinely think this one feature could make Goodnotes much more powerful for serious students like med students, law students, and competitive exam prep users.

9. Allow custom Google Drive folder for Auto Backup

   Currently, Google Drive Auto Backup is restricted to the root level of My Drive. I use Goodnotes together with Obsidian, with my Obsidian vault stored in Google Drive. I would like to back up my handwritten notes as PDFs directly into a folder such as:

   Google Drive → Obsidian Vault → Goodnotes

   More generally, allowing users to select an arbitrary Google Drive folder would make Auto Backup much easier to integrate with file-based workflows and other applications.

   Ideally, tapping Backup Location would open a Google Drive folder picker where the desired destination can be selected.

    Where is my crop selection. It used to be right there on the first selection menu. In the picture mode why would I need to paste and match style? I’ve selected a picture, why would I need to paste?

11. [Fountain Pen] Improvements

    The good notes fountain pen does not write how a fountain pen should. A fountain pen has a metal nib that creates thin cross strokes and wide down strokes. The pen in good notes is the opposite with wide side strokes and thin down strokes. The apple notes fountain pen is perfect in recreating the look of an actual fountain pen. This is the only reason I have to stay with apple notes. The pen interface is the most important for me. Otherwise, I would use good notes.

14. Bring back the ball point pen

    I hate using the fountain pen because I want all my writing to look consistent. The fountain pen has places where it's thicker and places where it's thinner and it drives me crazy. The ball point pen was way better because it was consistent. Bring it back!

15. Scribble But Without Textbox

    I want much more freedom when I write than a textbox! So I'm requesting a feature where you can manually turn it on or off and when you write with your Apple Pencil on your iPad in GoodNotes with any pen (like brush pen, ball pen, fountain pen), as you write in real-time, your text gets replaced with a font. So it's basically scribble as you write with your handwriting and it gets turned into a font but without the textbox limitation. Because it saves a lot of time instead of clicking on the text box icon, then selecting text box size, and then start writing, especially when you are notetaking and the professor goes really fast! I miss key details from my professor because it takes so long. Thanks GoodNotes, hope you impliment this soon!

16. Download for offline editing that will still sync when connected

    You can make backups, but what would be nice is being able to have them kind of "cached" and saved on the devices storage for faster loading (loading in the app on android is pretty slow) and for access offline, but it still syncs back and forth when connected to internet. Mostly if loading could be faster, there's a lot of lag and it takes forever for things to open on the android app and sometimes on the web app too.

17. After using lasso tool, put it back to pen tools.

    Currently, after using lasso tools, tapping with Apple Pencil will switch back to the eraser forcibly. It is so inconvenient that doesn’t revert to the tools I was using before, like pen or highlighters. Before the updates, it was used as usual. So please.

18. Make making flashcards as easy as writing notes, i dont want to type

    I dont want to tap to edit everytime i want to make a flashcard by pen, i just want to write them then slide to a new one. Its exshauting to tap write save then exit everytime for someone who just wants to write them by pen

19. Bug Report: Faulty PDF text data recognition blocks Text Box and Link tools

    Dear Goodnotes Support Team,
    I am writing to report a severe editing issue caused by the app's automatic PDF text recognition behavior, which currently frozen manual touch inputs on the document.
    When opening a PDF, Goodnotes automatically recognizes the text data and forcefully clusters a wide area into an unwanted purple selection block—even though I did not long-press to select any text. Furthermore, this text boundary recognition is highly inaccurate, capturing oversized regions regardless of the actual text layout.
    The critical issue is that within these faulty, automatically recognized text areas, all other manual touch inputs are completely disabled.
    My only goal is to tap on the empty spaces within that region to insert a new text box for typing or to add a hyperlink. However, because the app prioritizes the automatically recognized text data area, the entire region becomes completely unresponsive to the Text Box and Link tools. I am entirely blocked from inserting text or links where I want them, simply because the app has forcefully occupied that space with its automated text index.
    To resolve this workflow-breaking issue, I strongly request the following updates:

    1. Provide a [Toggle Switch in Settings] to completely disable this automatic text recognition/selection feature for users who do not need it.
    2. Ensure that manual user actions (like tapping to insert a Text Box or Link) [take absolute priority over the existing PDF text data area] so that users can freely type anywhere on the document.

    This text recognition behavior severely hinders the core note-taking experience. I kindly ask your development team to review this mechanic and release a swift fix.

20. New update = hot garbage

    1. The tool bar being ON my document is blocking parts of my notebook, making my working area smaller.
    2. When in split screen mode half of the toolbar disappears(we used to be able to scroll over still) and will only reappear if i make the window bigger.
    3. Instead of functions being displayed on the toolbar i now have to press extra buttons to get to things like the bookmark, but why?
    4. Why is my pen automatically the lasso? In GoodNOTES you would think i would automatically need the pen no?
    5. Not everything needs to be a drop down menu! The double bar was goated! One tap to get to things NOT FIVE!
    6. The text box function is completely ruined. I have to tap it extra times to move it or expand it, but why?
    7. WHY ARE TEXTBOX CONTROLS ON MY SCREEN BLOCKING MY DOCUMENT?? JUST PUT IT BACK AT THE TOP OR ON THE SIDE OR SOMETHING BUT ON THE DOCUMENT I AM TRYING TO REFERENCE?? WHYYYYYYYYYYY?
    8. Press and hold to go into text mode? Why? There was a nice button that we could press that would instantly take us there. Now we press the text box button and then press and hold. Just for it to look odd.
