   The floating text formatting toolbar covers content above the text box, making it difficult to read or present PDFs while typing. This is especially disruptive during screen sharing or teaching sessions. The user prefers the previous toolbar placement or an option to choose between the old and new layouts.

2. Link and Sync internal Goodnotes text files inside notebooks (Drag & Drop)

   It would be amazing to be able to drag and drop our own Goodnotes text documents directly into our notebooks to embed them as a live, linked file.

   When organizing materials, it is much cleaner and more comfortable to paste external texts, update definitions, and format paragraphs inside a dedicated text file rather than directly in a standard notebook. However, when it comes to studying, we absolutely need the notebook environment to highlight, draw arrows, and write handwritten annotations.

   Currently, if we update the source text, we are forced to re-import it, which destroys all our manual highlighting and notes. Focusing strictly on internal Goodnotes files, this feature would allow any changes made to the text file to automatically refresh inside the notebook, keeping our handwritten annotations perfectly intact. This would completely transform the workflow for anyone studying dense or evolving materials!

3. High resolution JPEG image export for Whiteboard

   I love the new whiteboard feature, but it seems that it has been built without exporting in mind with the only option to export still being a PDF file. This makes it impossible to export most whiteboards without losing quality, and making large whiteboards unreadable. Similar to Microsoft whiteboard, it would be fantastic if there was the option for a high resolution JPEG image export feature to complement the new update. Thank you!

4. Space around edges of the page

   It is very frustrating when I want to see the page as a whole by zooming out, but then the page automatically snaps to the edge of the screen (or on top against the toolbar). I want to just see a small buffer space to help visualize each edge of the page. It’s not ideal that I have to add a page above to try and see a full page with its edges. I want to see it as a page view, not pageless.

5. Request to restore 5-page thumbnail view

   Every goodnotes update is worse and worse... dont fix it, if it aint broken!!! When I click to go see and scroll through all the pages in a document I dont want a measly 3 pages that I can see per line. I'm a medical student and my lectures that I take notes on from good notes are 100s of pages long and this makes scrolling through large documents extremely inefficient. Bring back the 5 pages per line!!!

6. Formatting updates broke note consistency

   How about you stop changing the layout/form or how thing work. You make it impossible for me. Always changing how tu bullet points are laced out, the padding, saving the default text. Now half my notes are laced out differently and worse form the other half. Genuinely inconsiderate. Making so many unnecessary changes.

8. Support text-based PDF highlighting & add rectangular PDF text highlight

   There should be an option to be able to highlight the pdf text in the highlighter color you have selected. Similar to how you long press on a word and it selects, it should highlight, that way its much cleaner and easier on laptops to use. It should be in a rectangular highlighter shape. This feature is available in notability and is really urging me to switch.

10. Manual rotation/pivot of pages

    Personally, I can only really use GoodNotes when it is the only app on my screen, because my normal writing habit for paper is to have the paper at between a 40 and 60 degree angle.

    When I am only writing with GoodNotes, I can turn my whole iPad (which is challenging when traveling on a train but still possible). If I have multiple windows open for references, though, it makes this especially challenging and causes my wrist to hurt very quickly. My husband who is left handed also turns his paper the other way out of habit, and cannot use GoodNotes at all without frustration.

    I am instead using Z——a (another journaling app) for things that GoodNotes could do better. It is doubly frustrating because my main use is language learning, and I am trying to write my kanji correctly but without being able to manually rotate the page as I need, I wind up with skewed kanji which just hurts my studying.

    A simple 2 fingers to rotate the page however much we need could really make a huge difference. I have also used the whiteboard but when handwriting at an angle, I have to either deal with tons of red squiggles or turn off spell checking.

11. Personal Handwriting Model / Handwriting Cleanup

    I would love to see a feature that allows users to create a personalized handwriting profile that GoodNotes can use whenever AI edits, corrects, or improves handwritten notes.

    How it could work:

    1. Create a Personal Handwriting Profile

       • The user writes the full alphabet (uppercase and lowercase letters), numbers, and common symbols/punctuation marks in their neatest handwriting using a stylus.
       • GoodNotes saves these samples as the user's personal handwriting model.
       • This handwriting model becomes the reference style that AI uses for future handwriting improvements.

    2. Handwriting Cleanup

       • Users can write notes naturally, even if their handwriting becomes messy while taking notes quickly.
       • The user can then select, highlight, or circle a section of handwriting and choose a "Clean Up Handwriting" option.
       • AI rewrites the selected text using the user's saved handwriting style rather than a generic handwriting style or typed font.
       • The result remains personal and handwritten while being much easier to read.

    3. AI Spell Correction

       • When AI detects and corrects a misspelled handwritten word, the corrected word should be generated using the user's saved handwriting profile.
       • This would make corrected words blend seamlessly with the rest of the handwritten notes.
       • Currently, AI-generated corrections can look noticeably different from the user's actual handwriting.

    4. AI-Generated Content

       • If GoodNotes AI adds words, rewrites text, creates summaries, or makes other edits, the new content could be generated in the user's saved handwriting style.
       • This would keep notes visually consistent and maintain the feeling of genuine handwritten notes.

    Important Consideration
    * The handwriting profile should remain based on the user's intentional handwriting samples and should not continuously learn from everyday note-taking.
    * Many users (including myself) write neatly some of the time and (mostly) messily when writing quickly.
    * If the system continuously learned from all handwriting, it could gradually adopt the messy handwriting style instead of preserving the user's preferred neat handwriting style.

    Benefits
    * Preserves each user's unique handwriting style.
    * Makes messy notes easier to read without losing their personal appearance.
    * Creates more natural-looking AI corrections and edits.
    * Provides a better experience than converting handwriting to typed text or generic AI handwriting.

    I believe this feature would be especially valuable for students, professionals, and anyone who wants cleaner notes while still keeping the look and feel of their own handwriting.

    I would love to see a feature that allows users to take a photo of handwritten notes and convert them into fully editable GoodNotes digital ink.

    The key difference from importing a photo is that the handwriting itself becomes editable.

    How it could work:

    1. Take or Import a Photo

       • Users can take a photo of handwritten notes from:
         • Notebook page
         • Loose paper
         • Whiteboard

    2. Convert Handwriting into Digital Ink

       • GoodNotes AI analyzes the handwriting and reconstructs it as editable digital ink strokes.
       • The converted notes should closely match the original handwriting style and layout.

    3. Replace the Photo Background

       • Instead of keeping the original photo background, GoodNotes places the converted handwriting onto a standard GoodNotes page.
       • Users could choose lined, dotted, grid, or blank paper templates.
       • This creates a clean note page rather than a photo of a whiteboard or sheet of paper.

    4. Fully Editable Notes

       • After conversion, users can:
         • Erase individual strokes
         • Move handwritten content
         • Resize notes
         • Change ink colors
         • Use the lasso tool
         • Add additional handwriting
         • Organize content across pages

    Example Use Case
    A student takes a photo of a professor's whiteboard before leaving class. 14. Expand Page Option

    Have a feature where you can expand the page of a document, so that you can have extra space to write annotations. This would be helpful for med students like me who often write and annotate over books but have no space to write. Have an option to expand the page to the left, or to the right, or expand both sides, or customized expansion.

15. 画像への注釈機能についての要望

    現在、画像の細かい部分に文字や注釈を書き込む際、画面全体を大きく拡大する必要があり、小さい画像の場合は特に書き込みづらく感じています。

    可能であれば、画像をタッチすると画像自体が拡大表示され、その拡大された状態で直接注釈を書き込める機能を追加していただきたいです。

    また、画像に書き込んだ文字や注釈が画像と一体化し、画像を移動・拡大・縮小した際にも、注釈が一緒に追従する仕様になると非常に助かります。

    現在の仕様では、画像に注釈を書き込んだあとに画像を操作すると、注釈が画像とは別のオブジェクトとして扱われ、画像の背面に回ってしまうことがあり、少し使いづらく感じています。

    画像と注釈をまとめて扱えるようになると、資料作成や画像へのメモ書きがより快適になると思います。

    Handwriting recognition function is quite important and attractive for new users, However, the app can't really recognise my Chinese handwriting even though I write in a relatively clear way. Please imporve your recognition features for Chinese as well as other languages

18. Add a wavy/squiggly line option to the Shape Tool

    I would love to have a feature that allows us to draw wavy lines (squiggly lines) automatically using the Shape tool. Currently, drawing them by hand looks messy, and using text boxes or stickers is inconvenient. It would be extremely helpful for underlining and emphasizing key points while taking notes. Thank you!

20. Expandable Sidebars, In-line Folding, Selective iCloud Sync

    Hi everyone and Goodnotes Team,
    As a heavy PDF user who relies on Goodnotes daily for intensive studying and research, I would love to propose a few feature requests that would drastically improve productivity, document organization, and storage management.
    Here are 4 feature ideas I hope the community can upvote and the dev team can consider:
    1. Expandable Sidebars for PDF Annotations
    The Problem: Margin space on standard PDFs is often too restrictive for detailed note-taking.
    The Idea: Allow users to expand a left or right sidebar next to the original PDF page. This dedicated, extra space would let us add extensive handwritten or text annotations without covering or cluttering the original content.
    2. Collapsible/Expandable Content Sections (In-Line Folding)
    The Problem: Inserting large volumes of summaries or detailed breakdown notes usually messes up the original PDF structure.
    The Idea: Introduce a feature to fold and expand content blocks directly within the document (similar to MarginNote's style). This would allow power-users to embed massive amounts of deep-dive notes right where they belong, keeping the document clean yet comprehensive.
    3. Persistent Floating Display Toggle for Comments
    The Problem: Currently, you have to click on a comment icon to read what's inside, which disrupts the flow of active recalling and quick review.
    The Idea: Add a switch to let comments/annotations permanently float in the outer margins of the screen. Seeing our own insights at a glance alongside the text would make reviewing infinitely more efficient.
    4. Selective iCloud Synchronization
    The Problem: iCloud syncing is currently "all-or-nothing," which quickly eats up cloud storage if you have a massive library of heavy files.
    The Idea: Introduce selective sync. Users should be able to toggle iCloud sync on/off for specific folders or individual documents, choosing what to back up to the cloud and what to keep strictly on local device storage.
    I believe these tools would elevate Goodnotes from a great notebook app to an ultimate power-user platform for academic and professional research.
