1. Bring back the ball point pen

   I hate using the fountain pen because I want all my writing to look consistent. The fountain pen has places where it's thicker and places where it's thinner and it drives me crazy. The ball point pen was way better because it was consistent. Bring it back!

2. Make us go back to pencil mode after using eraser

   Since the new goodnotes (7) update, I always go back to latest tool I was using before the eraser, especially to the lasso tool, I do not want it, I want to be able to go back to pencil mode after the eraser again.

   Fix Goodnotes Storage Management – This Is a Technical Disaster

   Goodnotes’ storage architecture is fundamentally broken. My actual library size is ~6 GB, yet the app is bloated to 27 GB on-device. This clearly indicates severe issues with cache invalidation, temporary file persistence, and orphaned/ghost data retention.

   Instead of performing routine garbage collection and data compaction, Goodnotes seems to endlessly accumulate redundant assets (thumbnails, partial syncs, stale caches). This is textbook storage leakage — exactly what happens when an app doesn’t properly implement lifecycle management for its local data.

   For an app marketed as a professional-grade productivity tool, this level of inefficiency is unacceptable. Users shouldn’t be forced into a delete-and-reinstall cycle just to reclaim wasted storage. Implement proper cache eviction policies, file system hygiene, and background storage optimization. Until then, Goodnotes is less of a note-taking tool and more of a storage black hole.

4. Feature Request: Collapsible Sidebar Navigation for Quick Document Switching (Like OneNote)

   Dear GoodNotes Team,

   I am an academic researcher who relies heavily on GoodNotes for managing extensive libraries of notes, e-textbooks, and research data.

   I would like to propose a specific workflow improvement that combines the best of OneNote’s navigation with GoodNotes’ tab system.

   The Concept: I suggest adding a collapsible sidebar (File Tree) on the left while in editing mode. However, the interaction should work specifically as follows:

   Sidebar Visibility: While editing a note (e.g., "Biochemistry"), I can toggle open a left sidebar that shows my entire folder/file structure (similar to OneNote).

   Action: When I click on a different file in the sidebar (e.g., "Research Data"), it should open as a NEW TAB at the top, rather than replacing my current view.

   Real-world Example (My Workflow): Currently, if I am writing in my "Thesis Draft" and need to check a specific graph in my "Lab Experiments" notebook (located in a different folder), I have to exit to the Home screen, navigate through folders, find the file, and open it.

   With my proposal:

   I stay in "Thesis Draft".

   I open the sidebar, locate "Lab Experiments", and tap it just like an oneNote (see an image below)

   "Lab Experiments" instantly opens as a new tab next to my draft.

   I can now toggle between them seamlessly using the top tabs.

   This "Hybrid View" would solve the navigation friction while maintaining the powerful multitasking capability of GoodNotes. This feature would be a game-changer for scholars and professionals.

6. Let us record normally without requiring “record and summarize”

   Can’t figure out a way to record without the dumb AI features. Unknowingly used all my credits in the span of an hour because I couldn’t just record audio and it forced me to do the ai summarize too. So annoying

7. Make it quicker again

   Goodnotes has become more cumbersome and slower with the latest update. I now need two clicks to switch between pens and the laser pointer. When I have images, there is now always a white border at the top of the projection, and I first have to switch to read-only mode to display the image in full screen.
   The fold-out toolbox also takes up space on the screen.
   Adding to favorites also requires one more click.
   The updates have only increased the amount of work involved and represent a deterioration. On the other hand, I don't need AI or sound recordings. The new features take up space and displace existing ones.
   I would suggest that Goodnotes really allow you to customize it however you want. Without the AI button or record button, everything would still fit as before.

   Add a pressure-sensitive eraser, which allows the user to adjust the pressure level. Feeling different pressures determines whether the eraser function is activated.

9. Feature request: Inline LaTeX support for typed text in GoodNotes

   Hi GoodNotes team,

   I’m a heavy GoodNotes user on [iPad / Mac / iPhone] and I absolutely love using the app for studying and taking math/technical notes.

   I’ve noticed that GoodNotes currently doesn’t support inline LaTeX rendering in regular typed text (for example, writing $x^2 + y^2 = 1$ in a text box and having it render as nicely formatted math). I know you have great math / equation tools, but those generate separate equation objects rather than letting us mix math and normal text seamlessly in the same paragraph.

   For students and professionals in math, statistics, physics, engineering, and economics, having inline LaTeX in text boxes would be incredibly powerful. It would make it much easier to:
   • Write derivations and explanations with equations inside full sentences
   • Prepare more polished lecture notes and study guides
   • Keep math and regular text in a single, clean, editable text block instead of juggling multiple separate objects

   If possible, something like support for $...$ / $$...$$ syntax or a LaTeX mode for text boxes would solve this perfectly.

   Thank you for considering this and for all the work you’re already doing on GoodNotes. It’s a big part of my daily workflow, and inline LaTeX support would make it close to perfect for technical note-taking.

10. New update = hot garbage

    1. The tool bar being ON my document is blocking parts of my notebook, making my working area smaller.
    2. When in split screen mode half of the toolbar disappears(we used to be able to scroll over still) and will only reappear if i make the window bigger.
    3. Instead of functions being displayed on the toolbar i now have to press extra buttons to get to things like the bookmark, but why?
    4. Why is my pen automatically the lasso? In GoodNOTES you would think i would automatically need the pen no?
    5. Not everything needs to be a drop down menu! The double bar was goated! One tap to get to things NOT FIVE!
    6. The text box function is completely ruined. I have to tap it extra times to move it or expand it, but why?
    7. WHY ARE TEXTBOX CONTROLS ON MY SCREEN BLOCKING MY DOCUMENT?? JUST PUT IT BACK AT THE TOP OR ON THE SIDE OR SOMETHING BUT ON THE DOCUMENT I AM TRYING TO REFERENCE?? WHYYYYYYYYYYY?
    8. Press and hold to go into text mode? Why? There was a nice button that we could press that would instantly take us there. Now we press the text box button and then press and hold. Just for it to look odd.

    Please bring back the typing tool in handwritten documents as a separate button in the toolbar.

14. Shape tool is not as good as before

    Shape tool has become worse than goodnotes 6. Earlier we could draw any shape by drawing and holding the shape but now it converts every weird shape into a perfect shape line like square, rectangle or star
    Just make it as flexible as goodnotes 6 shape tool

17. Undo the automatic update

    How can I undo this last version of Goodnotes 6? I liked it better when the recording symbol wasn’t this horribly obvious as a big orange square. and I like it better when the toolbar didn’t move. Is there a way I can undo this update and back to the previous version of Goodnotes 6?!

18. Reverse updates to keyboard of September/October 25 update

    I just want to be able to have everything in front of me without pressing a billion different buttons for the sake of cleanness. Give me the keyboard button back and put all the customization buttons right below the toolbar, just like it was before, I am begging you.

19. Text box tool bar is a terrible idea

    The latest update has the text box tools floating on the page when I type. This is a nuisance and is extremely distracting. It makes it impossible to think and write. The previous toolbar system worked just fine. Either revert back to the earlier method or allow the floating toolbar to disappear while typing.

    Please fix this pronto! Sometimes change for the change’s sake is just a bad idea. This is one of those times.

20. [Audio Recording] Fix issue where audio stops or disappears in split-screen mode

    When using GoodNotes in split-screen mode, I record audio on one side so I can listen to it later, while studying for a test on the other side. However, if I close the screen I’m studying on, the recording disappears. The same thing happens when I try to open a different document on the study side — the recording stops and disappears.

    This feature worked fine before the update and also in GoodNotes 5, so I really want this issue fixed immediately. It’s seriously affecting my test preparation, and I’m having a lot of trouble because of it. Please fix it as soon as possible.
