1. Pen color inversion for dark backgrounds and export options

   Feature request:

   Hi GoodNotes team,

   I would like to suggest a feature for better dark mode note-taking.

   When the page background is dark, it would be very helpful if pen colors could automatically reverse or adapt for visibility. For example, black handwriting could appear white on a dark background, while still preserving readability.

   Also, when exporting notes, please allow users to choose whether the handwriting should be exported as black or white. This would be especially useful because notes that look clear on a dark background may become hard to read when exported or printed.

   Suggested options:

   Auto-invert pen color when using a dark background
   Keep original pen color
   Export handwriting as black
   Export handwriting as white
   Export exactly as shown on screen

   This would make dark mode much more practical for studying, annotating, and sharing notes.

2. Option to make handwriting not erasable (adding deliberateness to handwriting and learning)

   I think part of handwriting with pen/pencil is ruining your page with endless eraser marks. To mimic the slow and deliberate process of writing on physical paper, I'd like there to be the option where pen cannot be erased and the entire page must be tossed. You can implement a 2-step verification feature for those that really want to modify their pen marks so they don't have to restart a cheat sheet if their pen slips...

3. Add right margin to PDF for annotations

   This option adds a 2,5 inch margin at the right side of the document for annotating. The margin is collapsible afterwards or can be kept open permanently. This way one can annotate on PDFs with tiny margins without having to compress all the info.

4. Please allow us to hide the top bar, even when writing

   Please look at the attached photo. Does this look normal to you? Even after hiding the status bar to secure more screen space, it still looks like this. It is extremely irritating that one-fifth of the screen is wasted for stacks of some 'bars' that are useless 95% of the time, and I want to hide ALL OF THEM immediately.

   1. Please make it possible to enable read-only mode + hide tab bar + hide tool bar even while writing.
   2. JUST LET ME TAKE NOTES IN FULL SCREEN WITHOUT ANY DISTRACTIONS

   I simply want to take notes in full screen. I find it unbelievable and absurd that this is impossible in a note-taking app. I am a developer. If this is not fixed within this year, I will stake my life on building an app that includes every feature of GoodNotes while being ten times cleaner, release it for free, and bring GoodNotes down. Thank you.

   P.S. If this is technically impossible due to the current development state of GoodNotes, then please, please tell me privately at least. I will leave without any lingering attachment.

9. More PDF Features! (PLEASE READ, PERFECT FOR STUDENTS!)

   I recently switched to a system in which I'm taking notes using a Rocketbook, then putting those PDF scans into Goodnotes to store and annotate into notebooks for each class. I would love if there was some features for that in particular.

   • The ability to use precision eraser directly on the PDF. (I want to erase this diagram I drew! Or erase it then resize! Having to cover it with a shape is way to finicky, it makes adding new content over the shape very difficult.
   • The ability to edit the color of text! I only use Black pens, so it would be nice to go into Goodnotes and edit certain words to be in color.

   Everything here could also go for images!

   Basically just make rasterized PDFs an option. PLEASE ADD THESE IT WOULD MAKE MY NOTE SYSTEM SO MUCH EASIER! 🙏 I would hate to switch to another app. 😏 (There are no others but please add these features.)

10. Set default font type and size for typing in sticky notes

    I really appreciate that you can set a default font type and size for text boxes. It's really helped me streamline my notes when needed. I also really love the sticky note feature, but it's quite time consuming to change the font type and size when typing on sticky notes.

    It would be amazing if a future update would give you the option of setting a default font type and size for typing in sticky notes! Thanks!

11. Favorite a notebook

    Have the ability to mark a notebook as a “favorite” within the notebook when it is open. I like to use this feature so I can find specific notebooks more easily within all of the folders. I sometimes forget to make one a favorite and accidentally close it and it can be challenging to find it once its closed.

12. Auto Adjust(resize) of pen tip

    “smart" auto-adjustment that changes the physical pen thickness (e.g., from 0.5mm to 0.2mm) like the laser point have while we zoom in & zoom out.

    This feature would be great & much helpful instead of manually clicking & adjusting the pen thickness.

13. Report on annoying image selection while writing

    All i need is just u guys to make that when ur writing with pen my hand always accidentally touches the image when im writing on it and its so annoying cuz it tabs out for me while writing so the only fix here is to make like u did with the select thatt u can disable images and it won't touch or bother it at all , u guys did selection on image while im writing u should've switch it only while select and disable the touch onimages while im on pen option, Thanks for listening, this will make the app 500% better .

14. Drag and drop colour fill

    Instead of having to colour in drawings or shapes by hand (which is time consuming and sometimes difficult), being able to drag a colour of you choosing to fill inside a shape would be amazing! They have this feature on Procreate and it saves so much time and stress. I would love this to be added to Goodnotes too!

15. Add a "Workspaces" option to the Sidebar for context-specific tabs and tool presets

    Hi Goodnotes Team,
    I would love to see a new "Workspaces" option added to the main page sidebar (which currently only includes Documents, Favorites, Shared, and Market).

    This feature would allow users to save and switch between different working environments tailored to specific scenarios (e.g., different classes, meetings, or projects).

    Ideally, a custom Workspace would save:
    • Specific files/tabs: The specific notebooks or PDFs that need to be opened together.
    • Tool configurations: Custom presets for pen thickness, color palettes, and default tool combinations applicable to that specific scenario.

    Use Case:

    For example, if I am about to study for "Course A", I could just click the "Course A Workspace" in the "Workspaces" collection. With one click, Goodnotes would automatically open all the related files for that course and configure my pen tools to the specific colors and thicknesses I use for that subject.

    Management:

    We would also need an "Add/Edit Workspace" menu to easily create, customize, and manage these setups.

    Currently, we spend a lot of time manually opening multiple files and adjusting pen colors/thicknesses every time we switch subjects or contexts. This feature would drastically improve workflow and productivity!

16. bring back old pen laser tool

    I use the laser pen tool for reviewing notes and repetition, but now for some reason the dots on the i’s and sometimes some short vertical & horizontal lines vanish, making it hard to study. please bring back the old laser pen tool

17. Horizontal Highlighting Feature for Improved PDF Annotation

    Good morning,

    I am leaving this comment because I believe it could help improve the user experience of the application. I am a student, and I use it daily for reading, highlighting PDFs, and taking notes, especially on texts.

    One of the main issues I encounter when studying on a tablet is that, when using the stylus with the highlighter function, my hand is not very steady, and the lines I draw are usually uneven. I know that by holding the stroke at the end it automatically straightens, but in many cases my stroke is so irregular that the correction results in curved lines that do not properly follow the text I intend to highlight.

    What I propose is adding a feature to the stylus and highlighter that allows drawing only horizontal lines, making highlighting and underlining much easier.

    I hope this suggestion is clear and helpful. Overall, I really like the application and find it very useful.

    Buenos días.
    Dejo este comentario porque me parece algo que puede mejorar la experiencia al usar la aplicación. Soy estudiante y es una herramienta que uso a diario para lectura, subrayado de PDFs y tambien toma de notas, específicamente sobre textos.
    Uno de los principales inconvenientes que tengo al estudiar con la tablet es que al usar el lápiz con la función de resaltador mi pulso es impreciso y al subrayar el texto la linea habitualmente sale torcida. Se que al mantener presionado una vez finalizado el trazo este se endereza automáticamente, pero por lo general mi trazo es tan malo que la corrección produce curvas que no siguen el texto que tengo intención de subrayar.
    Lo que propongo es una función del lápiz y del resaltador que permita trazar únicamente líneas horizontales para facilitar las tareas de subrayado y resaltado.
    Espero haber sido claro y que este mensaje les sea de utilidad. En general la aplicación me gusta y es de mucha ayuda.

19. Feedback and Feature Requests for Goodnotes 6 Improvements

    1. Text Tool Enhancements

    Text Input Issues: Since upgrading to Goodnotes 6, typing has become frustrating. When clicking to type, the app often selects the entire PDF text block instead of placing a cursor. Please allow users to tap anywhere to start typing immediately without triggering existing text blocks. Currently, it's particularly difficult with a mouse or finger compared to the Apple Pencil.

    Custom Text Styles: Currently, only one default style can be saved. Please allow users to create and save multiple custom text presets. Additionally, include letter spacing (kerning) as a customizable parameter within these styles.

    Scribble-to-Text Consistency: When converting handwriting to text, it defaults to a generic style. It would be much more efficient if the converted text automatically applied the user’s currently selected custom text style.

    1. Toolbar Customization

    Pen Sub-tools: I use pen-related sub-tools more frequently than the main tools. Please allow users to pin pen sub-tools directly to the main toolbar for quicker access.

    Dedicated Shortcuts: Adding links and converting text currently requires too many taps. Please provide an option to add these specific functions as individual icons on the main toolbar.

    1. Tape Tool Improvements (Reference: Wordmasking)

    Self-Correction/Check Feature: I use the Tape tool for active recall, but I need a way to mark whether I got the answer right or wrong. Please refer to the Wordmasking app and implement a feature to track and review incorrect answers for more efficient studying.

    1. Layer Functionality (Highly Requested) ★

    Having a Layer System (Add/Hide/Show) would allow us to solve the same problem multiple times or hide study notes without duplicating the entire document. Many competing apps already offer this; it would be a game-changer for Goodnotes.

    Pen Sub-tools: I use pen-related sub-tools more frequently than the main tools. Please allow users to pin pen sub-tools directly to the main toolbar for quicker access.

    Dedicated Shortcuts: Adding links and converting text currently requires too many taps. Please provide an option to add these specific functions as individual icons on the main toolbar.

    Self-Correction/Check Feature: I use the Tape tool for active recall, but I need a way to mark whether I got the answer right or wrong. Please refer to the Wordmasking app and implement a feature to track and review incorrect answers for more efficient studying.
